Social Studies
Instructor: David Schiff
Welcome to the SixthGradeSocialStudies 3.0.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Social Studies. This year we will be studying the five themes of geography, economic principles and the Americas. We will also spend time learning about the town of Tenafly. I will be available before and after school, so if you need help – with this or any other class – please stop by our room.
Below are course guidelines that will lay groundwork for a successful year:

"What You Need to Succeed"
Always come to class prepared and on time:
o   Bring your notebook,
o   A pen or pencil
o   Your homework
o   And a little enthusiasm

Grading
Each grading period lasts about three months, so it is important to hand in all homework assignments and participate in class – as these two components make up more than half of your grade. During class, we will work individually and in cooperative groups, so it will be important to support your classmates as they may influence your grade. There will be at least two major projects during a grading period. Your grade is a measurement of points in the following areas:
o   Homework
o   Class Participation
o   Quizzes
o   Tests and Projects
  • If you miss (forget, misplace, do not do, etc.) an assignment, you should submit a make up version as soon to receive partial credit.
  • If you are absent: You will be asked to make-up any missed assignments as soon as possible.
